Snow capped mountains all aroung you, glorious sunshine, deep powder snow, velvety firn - on touring skis you can discover the best East Tyrol has to offer. There are countless routes to choose from and something for every ski touring enthusiast.


If you decide to go on your own there is plenty of information available, but we recommend that you hook up with a mountain guide who will take you safely to the glistening peaks and bring you back again. Lienz, thanks to its central location, is the best place from which to set off on a ski tour in East Tyrol.

Ski touring in the Virgen Valley

In the Virgen Valley there are ski tours with varying degrees of difficulty. Besides leisurely day tours you can go on challenging ski tours to the most noted peaks in the Venediger range. For your day tours try the Wunalm or the Johannishütte, just two of the many interesting ski touring routes.

The ski tour to the Großvenediger is without doubt the best and most popular among the really major routes. It is with good reason that this is called the "king of the ski tours".

Ski touring on Zettersfeld and Hochstein

For all those who are new to ski touring the Zettersfeld and Hochstein ski areas offer great possibilities for discovering the attraction of this sport.

On Zettersfeld, where the Faschingalm tow lift used to be you can see people walking up on their skis almost every day in winter. At the end of the route there is usually a cosy hut in which you can get warm again.

You can walk up beside the downhill run on Hochstein. It is then up to you whether you carry on up to the Sternalm or do a detour to the Moosalm. Sometimes even after dusk you can see ski tourers there.
